Hi, it's me again. Your long lost blogger. I know I've been unfaithful in my blogging attempts and I'm trying to change. Please don't hit me!
Now that I've got that off my chest (the guilt was just EATING me ALIVE! ;-) ) I just have to say how impressed I was yesterday. I had the honor of being a judge for the Kansas Scholastic Press Association High School Journalism Contest held at FHSU. Mr. Andy Stanton of the Communication Studies Department had contacted me about a month ago, and I have to admit I was slightly nervous. I mean, yeah I take pictures, but who am I to judge the work of others?
I'm so glad I did though. There were some impressive shots, some pulled of perfectly, some were a little rough, but it was so exciting to see the thought and effort that went into the planning. They might not have turned out perfectly, but there's always next time, and it was great to see these high school students' creativeness. It reminds me of myself back in the day, when we walked to school uphill both ways through 4 foot of snow....err, wait, it wasn't that long ago. But it seems like a million lifetimes ago!
Wait, what was I saying? Oh yeah.
Back when I first became interested in photography I took pictures of EVERYTHING. I'm fairly sure I drove my mom nuts shooting roll after roll of film. The Alco film developing counter loved us, no doubt. It may have seemed crazy at the time, but I really think you have to shoot, shoot, shoot and shoot some more to learn your style. This contest helped me get excited again about shooting just for me, just the fun stuff.
So on this fair Friday I leave you with this thought....go out and do something for you. Do something just for the fun of it. It'll be fun...I promise!!
:-)
Until next time,
Kathryn
